Yesterday I was talking to [livejournal.com profile] nova33 about why she loves Johnny/Evan, and there was this exchange:

[livejournal.com profile] unlurkster: yessss. I approve of this.
OH OH
you know what?? I would like for this to be, like, an actually fake war
where they're just-kidding-no-really, and when they meet to hook up they have teasing hatesex that isn't really hatesex, only sometimes the boundaries between what they meant and didn't mean are
[livejournal.com profile] nova33: Yes!
OR
[livejournal.com profile] unlurkster: kind of blurred to even themselves
[livejournal.com profile] nova33: It really is just a weird sort of sexual tension. Like...they don't really like each other - so they're not terribly fond when they actually do get together - but all the shit they say to the press is just an extended form of pigtail-pulling.
So when they see each other it's genuine anger - "You implied I was gay!" "You said I was untalented!" - but it's all sort of a game.
Yes????
[livejournal.com profile] unlurkster: oh mannnn yes! it's just a lot of weirdness crackling between them, sexually, and they don't know what they mean and what they don't mean
YES YES YES. let's have a BRAIN TWIN HI-FIVE, c'mon

And right there I guess is the kind of Johnny/Evan dynamic that's my favourite, the codependency and the frustration and the need. I mean, I can buy a whole bunch of different readings of their relationship (and so can Johnny & Evan! look at how spectacularly retconned their rivalry is!), but this I think is the definitive one that punches me in the gut and makes me believe, before I remember that Johnny/Stéphane is my OTP (tin-fucking-hat, you guys). I don't know, I find this the most exciting part of entering a fandom, getting to know who the hell these people are and who you ship and why you ship them ("they're pretty" is still a reason, fyi), and also basically thinking about it a whole bunch and also having really intense conversations about it, um.

So, anyway! Why do you ship what you ship, dudes? COME TALK TO ME ABOUT THIS.

Oh, you. ♥ You should tell me more about the stupid shit and the history, because I am not at all well-versed in MCR canon, and I want to know moooore. What's their dynamic like, in your head?

The stupid shit! Well, Bob was set on fire during a video shoot, because it was the kind of video shoot that if they stopped it, the set was being burned down, and so it could not be recreated. So he just went on playing and didn't say anything about being on fire. IDIOT. He also nearly died when that same wound went gangrenous before he went to the hospital with it. OOOPS. So he's very very dedicated to--well, the band that was his band, let's skip over this part, okay?--and basically all he ever wanted to do was play the drums, and he met Brian back when Brian was a tour manager for other bands and Bob was doing sound. Brian was training to become a stunt man there for a while, and does things like parachute out of planes or from hot-air balloons on a quasi-regular basis. And more recently on twitter: when someone asked him if he still talked to Bob and if he'd tell him the fans would miss him, and he said, "I do and I will." &THEM; Also, they're both very very competent.

I approve of this fondness for competent people! Also OH GOD BOB HOW SO RIDICULOUS. :D:

(Feel free to keep talking at me, btw, I find this immensely interesting! I do not know much but I will smile at you beatifically.)

My competence kink is, um, a mile wide might be underestimating it (do you KNOW why I fell headfirst for The Like? The music being well-written, oh my god, I went "...there it goes, my heart." And that note about her hooking up her guitarpedals for Ryan, I was like, "Z BERG. *___*")

But yes. I've had so many conversations with [livejournal.com profile] torakowalski that amount to "THEY ARE SO RIDICULOUS" and "OMG THEM." Like, okay, that whole twitter loyalty thing (there were a couple of other things too). And because they've known each other for so long, there's this perfect opportunity to write Pining with a capital P that just goes on and on and neither of them daring to say anything until one of them does something like jump out of a plane or get set on fire, which prompts that most adorable of declarations of love: "You ever do that again and I will kill you myself, do you hear me?" Anyway, that's the characterization behind my big bang from last year, the three seconds of Bob/Brian in it, anyway. "Idiot" is a very romantic epithet, okay?

Ahem, I'll shut up now. Every time I think I'm tired of them I do this.
