om nom nom red wine pasta sauce

recipe! )

I still have two thirds of a bottle of white wine and quite a lot of gin. I have a vague idea of what I want to do with the white wine (moar pasta sauce), but none at all re: the gin. Does anyone have good vegetarian recipe ideas? My flatmate has suggested I just chug it all, but that is a silly idea. Alcohol is for cooking. Obviously.

If I had posted at all today before right now, it would have been "blah blah blah, fandom is getting me down I am headcasey and life sucks" but then I came home and [livejournal.com profile] strange_bt_true went out for ice cream and I bought the ingredients for an avocado and cheese sandwich tomorrow and after this we're going to have toasted banana bread and watch a movie in bed and it's going to be great! So life is wonderful again. :D!

Other than that I have nothing to add. So I am terrible at picspamming, but somehow I have 15 articles saved on Mirai Nagasu on Delicious -- should I do a primer maybe? Don't be silly, self! Everyone knows who Mirai is! AND YET. Do they know of the existence of this delightful article (amongst many others)? Where there are lines like, 'In the wonderfully refreshing post-event news conference, Nagasu responded to criticism of the current depth of American women’s talent by predicting she and Flatt would “shoot down the opposition. Bang. Bang. Bang.”' DO THEY.

Guys, today [livejournal.com profile] strange_bt_true and I did literally nothing but eat. We had crepes and sushi and beef noodles, and we were supposed to go to the art museum but we were so full by then that we couldn't be bothered to do anything but drag our asses home (me: "They should just have conveyor belts at the museum so we don't have to walk around, and all the paintings can come to us instead... wait, that's like TV.") Then we fell asleep and woke up and had dinner, and then we watched the NBC coverage of the mens' singles at the Olympics (you guys! Why didn't anyone tell me that Florent Amodio skated to Amelie? ♥_♥), and went out for ice cream.

Then we came back and read this fic. YOU GUYS. Elena wrote fic for me! It's Johnny/Stéphane and it's domestic fic and I am incapable of being even remotely objective about this fic but oh my god it's the most perfect thing in the world. I just -- they fight and they have cake and it's so lovely and so them, and! -- oh my god, I don't know. Just read it. Her Johnny voice is so incredible and Stéphane is, he's so kooky and earnest and wants to paint the walls the pattern of a robin's egg. GO READ IT OMG.

DID I MENTION THAT SHE WROTE IT FOR MEEEEE.

Do you ever get to the end of writing a fic and go, "Yeaaaaaaah! \o/"? Like, finishing writing a fic is always inherently satisfying in itself, but sometimes the sense of triumph you get from finishing this fic in particular is outrageously awesome. Last night I finished one such fic and had to flail around in happiness for a while because.

I don't know, it wasn't even particularly hard to write. But yay!!! I wrote a The Like story! Keep an eye out for that in the next couple of days, yeah? It was the fic I worked on when I was stuck on all the other (read: figure skating) fics I was working on, so now that that's done and I'm not working on anything else in particular except the ficlets from my prompt post a while back and the OT3 with [livejournal.com profile] alex_boylove, it's scarily like starting anew again.

Also, I love writing endings a lot. When I had to write compositions in primary school I'd write really great and long-ass beginnings and sort of wind down towards the end, but right now it's kind of the opposite. Endings are great! Usually I kind of know what happens, but that doesn't affect my feelings of, let me tell you all about it. :)

It's Monday morning now and I had a pretty good weekend. Yesterday, in addition to many other things, I had three oranges and like ten mangosteens and also pineapples. All your fruits, they can be mine.

Also, IT HAS BEEN WHOLE WEEKS SINCE I DID A MEME! What is up with that?

Now, some writers embrace their id and write it all out there, and that can be a fabulous thing. Self-awareness FTW. But often when I'm reading a fic I find myself wanting to tap the author and say, "Pardon me, did you know your id is showing?"

So, a couple of us got to wondering what our fics revealed about us. Hence this anonymeme. Are our ids showing?

Come talk here!

ALL RIGHT YOU GUYS. Time to help me make another major life decision.

[Poll #1554984]

I am really the lol laziest, but to be fair I am tired and need a shower.

This and this are my new favourite things on earth. (Warning: figure skating RPF! also a work in progress! I have been refreshing the pages every thirty minutes) *___________* [livejournal.com profile] softlyforgotten posted a while ago about wanting funny and lighthearted porn that you don't get so much of in bandom anymore, and I didn't realise, I think, quite how much I'd missed that until I started reading these two fics. And, okay, there is no porn in the first and very little in the second -- but arranged marriages and pining and boys being delightfully and hilariously stupid. IN A LIGHT-HEARTED KIND OF WAY.

I think I'm in fannish love with Johnny Weir. I linked my BFF (you know, the one who knows I read fanfic and things) to the first one and she was like, "I love Evan Lysacek!" and I was like BUT DOES SHE NOT RECOGNISE THE MAGNIFICENCE OF JOHNNY WEIR, and so on.

Today was a weird day, because I'm never very good when I have my period, so I basically just lumbered around work getting nothing done and bumping into people and dropping things on the floor. Then I came home, and made a bad pizza, which was humiliating. On the other hand, yesterday I made these chocolate chip meringue cookies which were really easy and delicious. (Although if you don't like cookies and things really sweet, you might want to cut down on the sugar and the amount of chocolate chips, or maybe even take them out altogether.) I like baking a lot, in case you couldn't tell. *____________*

So anyway, Johnny Weir, accidental marriages, Johnny Weir, chocolate chip meringue cookies! If you wanted to talk about any of those things to me or rec me more hilarious and adorable (I am not looking for the angsty stuff yet, I don't think) skating fic, I would like that a lot.

I spend a lot of time thinking about what to eat.

I have a huge appetite! It definitely helps that I have a quick metabolism, but really, I love food too. I was thinking about the foods I'll miss when I go to the UK in October (which, \o/) and it strikes me that what I'll yearn for isn't really the street food that Singapore's famous for, but a mixture of homemade foods and things I grew up eating. And also things that are going to be unavailable over there, obviously.

To wit:
  • Californian rolls. Also, really good sushi that doesn't cost a lot.
  • Incredibly fresh steamed fish with soy sauce and ginger on top
  • Those springy yellow noodles with some kind of leafy green veg and minced pork on top.
  • Oyster omelette
  • Mixed brown and white rice
  • Braised spinach with three kinds of egg.

However, in Britain there will be!
  • Black pudding :DDD
  • Really good roast
  • Cakes
  • Marmalade
  • Chips with vinegar
  • SAUSAGE
  • Parsnips, which I have never tried. And also swedes!

... I'm kind of really hungry now, does anyone realise?

[Poll #1521927]

Can it be twelve o' clock already?
extemporally: (true love!!)
I have decided that my day off (which feels like the first day off I've had in a long, long time, even though that's completely not true) will be a day of eating! On Wednesday (Tuesday?) night I bought an avocado from the supermarket and it wasn't ripe yet, and I waited for days and days. This morning it was perfectly ripe. I had an avocado and cheese sandwich for breakfast. (My mother looked briefly concerned for a while. "Avocado and cheese? Is that nice?") OH MY GOD BEST BREAKFAST EVER YOU GUYS. I really like avocados!

I'm making this tomato sauce for lunch. Right now I can smell something which smells like bacon (but which probably is not bacon) cooking in the kitchen. After I post this I'll probably get up and check.

& lastly, I have discovered the Percy Jackson series. They're kind of a fun read, you guys! Not as good as Harry Potter, but then again, it's Harry Potter we're talking about. (I have never read Lord of the Rings. You may all gasp and draw back in horror now.) Actually, they're not really very well written, but they're really fun (Greek gods! Maladjusted kids! A quest to retrieve Zeus' thunderbolt!) and [livejournal.com profile] strange_bt_true sent me the PDFs, so. Basically I just want one million AUs of this series. Ryan (when is it ever not Ryan) the maladjusted kid with a crappy home situation this close to being expelled from his latest prep school, who always gets into trouble around water, and also Spencer the satyr who's been assigned to Ryan for his protection. Think about that. No really, think about that.

Also, like.

Does anyone have any chicken soup recipes? I'm talking chicken soup in the sense of 'chicken and vegetables, is roughly filling', not chicken soup in the Chinese sense, which (as far as I can tell) basically goes: 'Get a chicken. Black, if you can get it. Also as many expensive herbs as you can. Boil for five hundred hours. YOU NEED THIS TO KEEP UP THE STRENGTH OF YOUR DEPENDENTS.' So, yeah. Less tyrannical recipes, hopefully with carrots and celery and with an achievable brewing time! Anyone?

Also I'm hungry.

My eggs are overcooked. GODDAMNIT, EGGS. I BOILED YOU FOR FOUR MINUTES. ISN'T THAT THE PROPER TIME.

... so they fail as soft-boiled eggs, but they're pretty good hard-boiled ones, I guess. I guess.

1. This is the most terrible thing ever. I had a burger and two tomato soups for lunch and now, I'm hungry? Stomach, you fail me.

Whatever. I'm eating gelato now, so maybe that makes up for something. Or quite a lot, really, but if I continue being unimpressed hopefully the universe will find added ways to make it up to me.

2. "Friendships shouldn't suffer just because you like different things."

♥♥♥

I guess it's pretty clear by now that ninety percent of the fannish content on this journal is devoted to Ryan Ross. We've had our ups and downs, to be sure, but today I feel justified, okay? Haters to the left!

3. And here, have some thoughts about Panic(!) music and the kind of fic I like:

Also a bit meta )

There are mangoes in my kitchen (not [livejournal.com profile] colouredmango, I mean, they're coloured, what, they are just not [livejournal.com profile] colouredmango) and from where I am (right outside the kitchen) I can smell them ripening. It's a soft sweet smell.

On the countertop next to them there are also bananas. These are bananas but they're also special because they're red bananas.

We had Korean food for dinner last night and now the microwave is telling me that my leftover rice is ready. Guess what I'm having for breakfast!

Okay, I'm done. :D
