Contextual information about how I present as queer - bla bla, came out to myself two years ago, told a few friends, went to university where I promptly got involved with queer/feminist things so coming out was never an issue, changed my Facebook profile so it says 'interested in men/women', figured that was as public as I needed to get, never got round to telling all my other old schoolfriends, and anyway my sexuality was - and still is - an academic point, and occasionally get fired up about the importance of coming out, a la Harvey Milk. This is all leading up to how a certain thing has to STOP HAPPENING. What happens is I'll tell people in my circuitous, roundabout way that I am actually interested in both men and women, and by people I mean 'old schoolfriends', and then they'll come out to me. 'Oh yes, we've both known each other for eight years and here's another little tiny nugget of information about me that I should disclose, given that you've just come out to me,' and this just happened tonight. It has to stop happening. For one, I am too old for this, which is straight out of all those high school queermo films I never got around to watching the first time, except without a narrative arc. I should just get better gay (queer?) dar.
