where jesse is the teenage dirtbag and andrew is the Most Popular Guy in school (and, like. and, like. he's out at school and this is an awesome enough school that he's really popular anyway and has a boyfriend and probably even like got recognised by the Human Rights Campaign for winning a spoken word poetry competition where he read a ~~verse~~ for being gay??) and jesse, well, jesse's just the guy who gets all DEER IN THE HEADLIGHTS when andrew comes over to talk to him at lunch, leaning back on the table and neatly avoiding the dried ketchup puddle, nbd, and jesse is stuttery and maybe even the slightest bit abrupt and he hates himself for not being more interesting and looks down at his shirt an hour later and then hates himself even more because apparently the world (and andrew) can tell he had fried egg sandwich for breakfast that morning???
but andrew keeps coming back, is the thing, he keeps coming back, and jesse is so into him, how could he not, most ridiculous cliche ever, but he's pretty sure andrew's just being friendly and just wants to be friends, and jesse doesn't tell andrew he's into boys either because andrew is The Gay One at school, and jesse doesn't want to take over his territory. really.
and jesse ends up coming out to, like, HIS ENTIRE FAMILY when he's having a panic attack over something vaguely related to andrew, and at some point andrew comes over and hallie kate blurts it out or something, when she's in the middle of a tantrum, and andrew goes all wide-eyed and says, "jesse - ? how come you never - ?" and of all the reactions jesse expected andrew to have, out of scepticism or shock or (okay, he admits it) leaning over and grabbing him and kissing him, he never expected andrew to be hurt.
AND SCENE.
Mostly in my head this is all about popular people and how they seem invulnerable and cool and Jesse doesn't realise that they're people, too, and that he has the power to hurt them, even Andrew. Especially Andrew.
