… aka, the once in a blue moon fannish post.
So I always thought bandom had ruined me forever for fpf - you know, the fanfiction involving actual fictional people instead of real people and their quasi-fictional media constructs - but yesterday I read this TSN story and its commentary, and what do you know, actual stirring interest in a fictional fandom again!
I guess here's the part where I should insert several shameful confessions: such as the fact that I secretly actually really love issuefic, like no I mean I really do LOVE it when it's done well, and some tropes (like genderswap) are actually really hard for me to get into if the stories they're embedded in aren't to some extent issuefic. Or: I am literally too sensitive to live, because when I first watched The Social Network (I tried - back in the day when it first came out, I tried), I had to stop watching halfway because of the misogyny in it - I didn't feel like it was being pointed out as particularly problematic, although I definitely don't know enough about Sorkin's work to say either way (another shameful confession ™: I've never watched The West Wing).
Also another shameful confession: I've not been able to get into FPF because I feel like the narratives engendered by real life are more interesting for some reason or another, at least in terms of the flexibility given to readers and writers.
But anyway, the point is, I really liked that one fic! Usually what it takes for me to get into fandom is I read that one meaty story that pretty much forms the basis of how I feel about the characters in question/the general narrative, so maybe this is it. I'm not making any promises, though. Are there any more stories similar to that? i.e. meaty character-driven canon-heavy exploratory issue-heavy stories. The porn can come later.

On the rpf side of things… omg so this is the most self-indulgent thing ever, but lately I have been obsessed with a story where Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone are visiting students at a college in Oxford, where Andrew Garfield and Carey Mulligan (does he have a closer female bff? well, anyway, Carey's my favorite so) go. There are many Oxonian adventures and ill-advised hookups, and Jesse is like super nervous about new people and also kind of dry and reticent, and Andrew is that crazy fey guy whom Jesse can't take his eyes off, and… akjd;jal;dfjld;kjf; you can stop reading here, okay. Mainly I am obsessed about how it doesn't exist yet.
Also, if it were set in the UK, Keira Knightley could be involved. :3
vitally important ETA am I alone in finding Kid Cudi SUPER HOT? I just can't even. *fans self*
