There are not a lot of articles on Shizuka out there. I mean, there are some four year old ones about the 2006 Olympics, but those usually tend to go, like, "Sasha Cohen and Irina Slutskaya both fell IN A STUNNING UPSET, and Shizuka Arakawa got gold..." which is not reeeeeally what I'm looking for. What I want: interviews, people! Articles which talk about her personal life to some extent! I don't doubt that there are these things out there -- even if Shizuka seems to be pretty private about her personal life -- it's just that they're all in Japanese. I am super entitled, and Google Translate makes my head hurt.

So, if you have anything of the sort, send those my way? I've been trawling ontd_skating and stuff, but yeah. Insufficient for my needs, people! I should probably have taken Japanese more seriously way back in secondary school, but um. D:

In return, have a video where Shizuka and Miki dress up in kimono and look stiff and awkward.

Miki is only 17 here! She looks terribly young and adorable.

Desperately seeking BGJW!

Hi there! I have been enjoying your journal since the Winter Games and especially your fic! Clearly you are the leading authority on all things Johnny Weir (and a number of other skaters too!). I have a rather desperate request. Unfortunately as the Season Finale of BGJW is shown this coming week, along with re-runs of Pop Star on Ice and the other episodes of BGJW in the US, not even Foxtel can help out J's Australian fans. I wasn't able to record the initial BGJW episodes and although I've tried my best on youtube, nothing is there is its entirity.

We can't purchase anything from iTunes in Aus as our range is different and BGJW has not been released on iTunes in Aus.

So... I was wondering whether there would be any chance at all of asking for a rather large favour? Would you be / have you already recorded any of the BGJW series? Will you be recording the Finale? If so, is there any way at all that I would be able to request a copy from you? I'm happy to cover any costs including postage via PayPal of course.

Could you let me know ASAP?! Very much hoping you may be able to help!!

Yeah, there aren't really very many interesting ones. She's mentioned in a couple of "Asian lady skaters are taking over!" type articles but they're passing references. Here are a couple of short but cute ones talking about commentating in Vancouver: one and two. There's one talking about how she's working to stop ice rinks in Japan from shutting: here. I just read one from Thin Ice which made me SO HAPPY because Dick Button talked about Stéphane lifting Shizuka over his head WANT WANT OMG LOL NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN: here, though not really what you're looking for.

I'm not sure I'm being particularly helpful. I'm just trying to be all LOOK HER HEART IS NOT REALLY MADE OF ICE LOOK AT HOW CUTE AND FUNNY AND SWEET SHE IS. Personal life-wise, you're probably not going to get much more than "Favourite singer: Beyoncé, Favourite animal: dog" kind of thing :/
