EXACTLY! I think the Doctor, who sees the humanity in everything, would not resort to cheap jokes like that is ringing really really true to me at this point in time; I really enjoy the bits where the Doctor's alienness come out - I think that's partly why David Tennant will always be one of my favourites - and lines like those don't just throw that out of the window, they reinforce a particular kind of shitty humanity. tl;dr THE DOCTOR DOESN'T UNDERSTAND GENDER ROLES.
