Your main fandom of the year?
Figure skating, I guess! It's kind of sad that the fandom's mostly dead now. :(

Your favorite film watched this year?
I watched lots of awesome films this year. None of them (or, none that made it onto my favorites shortlist) were really fandom hotties, since none of them really came out this year. I am so bad at this whole "pop culture" thing, haha. In terms of actual favorites, I'd say To Live.

(I did watch Inception! It… made me want Cobb/Saito fic for all of two seconds before I forgot about it. I tried watching The Social Network, but then I got bored halfway through and wandered off. I know this makes me a Bad Fan. Sorry.)

Your favorite book read this year?
Uhhhh, either Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart or Denton Welch's In Youth Is Pleasure. (Both of which are recommendations to Check That Shit Out, btw.) Or! Or! I really enjoyed Susanna Clarke's Dr. Strange and Mr. Norrell. I… actually have no idea why it took me so long to read that book. /o\ Is there fic?

I don't know. I don't really absorb books (or most media material, actually) from a fannish point of view, so when I say "I want fic" I usually really mean, "I want more of the book", not necessarily "stories about these people boning". Possibly why I enjoy gen so much, I guess! I also think this has something to do with why I really like RPF, in the sense that there's definitely a narrative lacking, lots of gaps which fans can easily fill with their own stories, while the same is not as true of FPF.

Anyway. Rambling.

Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
In terms of "albums actually released this year", The Like's Release Me. Possibly also in terms of "actual favorite album", huh. I also think that Okay's High Road (which was not released this year) deserves an honorable mention.

Your favorite TV shows of the year?
Community! and Doctor Who. I am very very excited for next year, as it will be the first time I will be watching it (in real time, possibly) in the UK. HI THERE, KAREN GILLAN.

Your favorite LJ community of the year?
[livejournal.com profile] ontd_feminism. Also speaking of which - I'd like links to queer blogs, if you have them! Obviously they don't have to be LJ communities.

Your best new TV discovery of the year?
Community! I mainlined the entire first season in slightly under 48 hours, which is kind of gross but also proof of how addictive it was.

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
Evan Lysacek's Twittergate maybe? A lot of skating fandom, actually. Lol the fourth wall.

Your fandom boyfriend of the year?
Ladies and gentlemen… may I introduce, STEPHANE LAMBIEL.

Your fandom girlfriend of the year?
Is it creepy to say Mirai Nagasu :( I really want to say Mirai Nagasu :( I MEAN THIS NON-LIBIDINOUSLY

Your biggest squee moment of the year?
The months during which I was really into skating fandom (say, April to August?) was one long squee moment. Failing that, going to, uh, a show by Europe's premier Bowie tribute band.

The most missed of your old fandoms?
I miss caring about bandom a lot! I know I always say Harry Potter was my first fandom, but bandom was the first fandom where I delurked and had fun playing around with other people. A lot of my closest friends on LJ were from bandom. SHOUTOUT TO ALL YOU GUYS.

The TV you haven't tried yet, but want to?
People keep telling me I have to watch Hawaii 5-0 and Cougar Town but mostly I am like, "LOL, I have school." My attention span is also really short -- I watched the first four episodes of The Good Wife and really enjoyed those, but have no desire to go back to it! This is not a reflection on the quality of the show. It is a reflection of my short attention span.

Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
Haha, maybe Johnny Weir's book. I will probably fork out for a copy off Amazon because it's not spending real money if you never hand over actual cash, amirite? (This is why one of my non-fannish New Year's Resolutions is "be more financially responsible", btw.) Or following the rest of the skating season, in a medal-tallying "who won what" kind of way. Oh! Oh! Watching DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2, I loved Part 1 (consider Part 1 one of my favorite movies of the year, btw, I just remembered -- it triggered my whole HP nostalgia session) partly because splitting the book into two parts made the pacing of it so much better, they should have done that shit years ago. Hopefully becoming invested in a new fandom over the summer, or something -- New Fandom Glow is amazing.

… I feel like there should have been more about Harry Potter in the meme, given that a lot of what I've been doing over the past week or so consists of rereading old HP fic or reading the stuff I didn't read the first time round. Anyway! There you have it, Fandom of 2010. I feel like there should also be something in here about how this whole year was littered with tiny meltdowns (nothing especially scarring, most of them Learning Experiences), and fandom was one of my ways of coping, whether through reading absurd amounts of fic or engaging in absurd amounts of chatficcery or talking it out with ljfriends. Maybe not the most healthy of ways of Coping With Things, some might say, but those people are probably rubbish. I coped with fandom! And I will always be grateful for that. Peace, you lot.
